Staff Accountant

Supports the Controller and Senior Accountant in carrying out accounting functions for Heart of Hospice. This individual should utilize his/her strong accounting, technical and communication skills, and leverage a positive attitude and team approach to contribute to the accounting departments productivity.

The Position: 

  1. Assist the accounting staff in preparing and uploading journal entries and updating electronic worksheet supporting detail. Release monthly recurring journal entries and maintain related supporting documentation. Support the monthly close of the general ledger utilizing Oracle general ledger system.
  2. Assist the accounting staff with P& L and Balance Sheet account analyses. Communicate with field management and other departments to obtain the necessary information to electronically prepare and distribute financial information and account analysis support.
  3. Assist with the reconciliation of bank statements to the general ledger. Reconcile monthly contributions and coordinate adjustments. Resolve any unreconciled differences and record adjustments, as necessary.
  4. Preparation and distribution of monthly forecasting tool and financial reports to leadership.
  5. Participate in annual budgeting process.
  6. Support fiscal year end audit and assist with any special projects as needed.

The Requirements:

  • Education: Graduate from an accredited 4-year college or university with major course work in accounting. Certified Public Accountant, preferred.
  • Experience: 2 or more years of experience in accounting, preferably in the medical field.
  • Possess knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Possess knowledge of pertinent State, Federal and local laws, rules, regulations relating to accountability of funds.
  • Ability to prepare a variety of complex financial and statistical reports.
  • Ability to perform arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships contacted in the performance of their duties.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
  • Exceptional skills in word and Excel
